India VS Australia, 2nd ODI Series : India level the 3 – Match ODI series 1-1 after a clinical chase of 299 against Australia.
Kohli scored his 39th ODI 100 while Dhoni steered India through with a vintage 50.
A routine day at work for Virat Kohli as he produced a sublime 104-run knock as India defeated Australia by six wickets in the second One-day International (ODI) in Adelaide on Tuesday as they level the three-match series 1-1.
Thanks to the 39th century from the Indian skipper, India registered the second highest successful run-chase here at the Adelaide Oval.
Chasing 299, India got off to a firm start with openers Shikhar Dhawan (32) and Rohit Sharma (43) together adding 47 runs for the first wicket. Later, Rohit recorded a crucial 54-run partnership with the skipper Kohli, keeping India’s run-chase on track. After Rohit’s dismissal, Kohli strung a 59-run partnership with India’s number 4 batter Ambati Rayudu. Rayudu was looking in good touch but got out for 24 courtesy of a poor shot against part-timer Maxwell. But Kohli held the Indian run-chase intact from one end. He along with former skipper MS Dhoni put together 82 runs for the fourth wicket, taking the match away from Australia.
Towards the end, MS Dhoni (55 not out) along with Dinesh Karthik (25 not out) ensured victory for India with four balls to spare. It was a poor outing for Australian bowlers as none of them were able to make any real impact. Jason Behrendorff, Jhye Richardson, Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell managed a wicket each. Both the teams head now to Melbourne for the final clash in this tour. Which team has the last laugh?
